RIGHTS OF WAY. The Town Council is not responsible for bridleways and footpaths. However, they are given certain powers which,if exercised, can make a significant contribution to the public’s ability to enjoy the public path network.
The County Council has a very large area of responsibility for bridleways and footpaths, and finds it difficult to keep all rights-of-way clear in the growing season. Whitchurch Town Council currently employs a contractor for ground maintenance work, one day a fortnight. In the summer months a large proportion of his work is on clearing footpaths.
The Town Council will report routes that require way-marking;report blockages or potential dangers,fly-tipping,broken stiles or gates etc.
Should you notice any fault with a footpath then please use the complaint form (see ‘Forms’) and hand it in,or email back to the Town Clerk, who will pass it on to the correct department.
Alternatively you may report direct to Hampshire County Council by phoning 0845 603 5636 or e-mailing countryside@hants.gov.uk
STREET LIGHTING. The maintenance and repair of most of the street lights are the responsibility of the County Council, but the Town Council owns approximately 100 lamps in residential areas, and in connecting pathways. All lamps are maintained and repaired by the same contractor, and administered by the County Council.
You may report faults using the complaint form (see ‘Forms’) or phone direct on 0845 603 5633,or e-mail roads@hants.gov.uk
